Tribute to Dr. ABU Qamar Siddiqui

( 05/11/1947 - 16/05/2021)

That man is a success, who leaves the world better than he found it; who has never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty and has never failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.

It is with profound and unparalleled grief that I am writing this obituary for Dr A.Q. Siddiqui sir. Sir has left for his heavenly abode on 16th May 2021 at Aligarh. Born on 5th November 1947, he was a stalwart in Psychiatry. He attained his DPM from Royal College of London in 1978 and MD Medicine from JNMC, Aligarh in 1981. He joined JNMC Aligarh as Assistant Professor thereafter and retired as Professor and Head of Department of Psychiatry in 2012. He joined as Professor & Head in Department of Psychiatry at Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College in August 2013 and retired in Nov 2017. His total teaching career spanned 39 years wherein he trained and mentored many young psychiatry residents. He has published many articles in both international and national journals.

Besides being an excellent and revered academician, he was a human being par excellence. His jovial nature, charming persona and empathic nature made him a favourite among his patients as well as his colleagues and students. He had the innate ability to make anyone laugh. He had a kind and benevolent nature and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who approached him. He was an excellent orator and you could listen to him for hours at end both on topics related to psychiatry and life and in general. He had a vast fund of knowledge about religions and culture of the world.

The cruel hands of fate have snatched this gem of a person from amidst us. He is survived by his wife, son , daughter and grandchildren. He has left a void for all those who loved him which cannot be filled but his memories will be kept alive in the thousands of lives that he touched. We will remember him in our hearts, in our thoughts and in the memories of the time we spent with him. He will never be gone for us as he will continue to live in our hearts.

Sir always said –
Apna Zamana aap banate hain ahl-e-dil, Hum wo nahi ki jinko Zamana bana gaya
Farewell Sir, May you find eternal peace in the heavens above .
